2016 Legislation creates a tax exemption from ad valorem taxes assessed on homesteaded property owned by first responders who are totally and permanently
disabled as a result of an injury sustained in the line of duty. "First responder" means a law enforcement officer or correctional officer as defined in
§943.10, Fla. Stat., a firefighter as defined in
§633.102, Fla. Stat., or an emergency medical technician or paramedic as defined in
§401.23, Fla. Stat. who is a full-time paid employee, part-time paid employee, or unpaid
volunteer.
